Violence against women is a major social concern. Madhya Pradesh Police, intended to
increase responsiveness to violence against women, launched Urgent Action and Just Relief
(URJA) help desk. URJA piloted in the state in January 2019 through a collaboration
between the MP police department and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL).
The primary objective of launching the URJA desk was to increase the number of reports of
crimes against women through First Information Reports (FIRs) and Domestic Incident
Reports (DIRs).
